Common opener problems we fix
Door goes down, then reverses
The photo-eye sensors near the floor must "see" each other for the door to close. Sunlight, a bumped bracket, a cobweb or damaged low-voltage wire can all cause the door to reverse. We realign, clean or rewire the sensors. If the cause is the opener's force or travel settings, we recalibrate them.
Opener runs but the door doesn't move
On many chain and belt openers, a worn plastic drive gear strips out and the motor spins without moving the door. We can usually replace the gear assembly. Before we do, we check that the door is balanced. A heavy door with weak springs is often what wore the gear out.
Remote or keypad not working
Dead batteries, lost programming, a failed receiver or an older opener that isn't compatible with newer remotes. We reprogram, replace remotes and keypads, and add compatible accessories.
Opener is loud or vibrates
Chain slack, loose rail mounts or worn door rollers can make an opener noisy. A belt-drive opener and nylon rollers make a big difference, especially under bedrooms.
No power or intermittent operation
We check the outlet, wall button, wiring, limit switches and logic board to find out whether it's a quick repair or time for a new unit.
Repair or replace your opener?
Repair usually makes sense when the opener is less than about 10–12 years old and the fix is a common part. Replacement is worth considering when:

- The logic board or motor has failed on an older unit
