When a panel can be replaced
Sectional garage doors are made of three to five horizontal panels hinged together. If only one or two are damaged, replacing those sections is often much cheaper than a new door, as long as:
- The manufacturer still makes matching sections for your door model and size
- The rest of the door is in good shape, with no widespread rust or rot
- The color and style can be matched closely enough for your taste

When a new door makes more sense
- Matching sections are discontinued
- Several panels are damaged, or the door is rusted or rotted throughout
- The cost of panels plus labor approaches the price of a new insulated door
- You want better insulation, a new style or improved curb appeal
